An Archive of Dance, Culture & Community

Social Dance Cultures is a nonprofit organization founded by dancer, choreographer, and educator Debbie Goodwin to support dance education, performance, cultural exchange, community, and the preservation of dance history.

Over the years, this work has taken many forms—from youth swing dance and performance to Argentine tango education, choreography, and community-building.

This site preserves the history of three major chapters of that work.

THE RUGCUTTERS

Auburn, California • 1995–2001

A youth swing dance and performance program that grew from a small group of teenagers wanting to learn swing into a thriving community of dancers, performers, teachers, and young leaders.
