The “Rugcutters” were a group of young dancers ages 13-21 from the Auburn, CA area that were dedicated to the revival of American Swing. Under the direction of choreographer Debbie Goodwin this student company based their work on authentic social dancing such as the Lindy Hop from the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s and the popular jazz steps from those eras. They performed at community events and fund-raisers, conducted lecture demonstrations at local Jr. High and High Schools, gave workshops, put on a monthly dance -The Friday Night Swing Out, appeared with Don Treco’s “In The Mood” living history big band, danced in half-time events with the NBA Sacramento Kings at Arco Arena and performed for swing legend Frankie Manning at the Catalina Casino Ballroom.
